I was goofing around thinking up things and was wondering what the width of the rim was. The distance between rim wall and rim wall. Thanks Bill

View Full Version : 29er riders, i need a easy favor. crossracer 03-27-2007, 09:36 AM I was goofing around thinking up things and was wondering what the width of the rim was. Many riders are riding their 29ers on "road" rims such as the Mavic Open Pro, Mavic CXP30, and Interloc Cadence. The widest 29er rims on the market are the 700c version of the SnowCat rims and the Kris Holm 700c Unicycle rim (yes, you can use two of them on a bicycle). The Salsa Delgado Disc is 29mm wide. Most are in the 24mm range though. crossracer 03-27-2007, 04:49 PM Thanks, looking for info since i have some questions about upgrading toa disk wheelset for a crossbike. Stans, Salsa, American Classic, etc. My Am. Classic 29er rims are 22mm wide, outside to outside. YMMV. Classic 29er rims are 22mm wide, outside to outside. YMMV. fir the most part. I was just relating some of the experiences from the posters over on MTBR that have had good luck running road rims. I also say a guy totaly wreck a new front wheel built with an Open Pro on the first ride. That was probably rider error, however. I'm a larger guy so I look for MTB specific 29er rims. Grasschopper 03-28-2007, 05:16 AM Yea I am rocking Salsa DelgadoX on my commuter and they are considered a 29er or CX rim...also a touring rim. 22mm width. Of note should be that on a rim that wide 28mm tires is about as small as you can go. crumjack 03-28-2007, 08:22 AM WTB makes their Dual Duty rim in 29er and 700c versions. The 29er is 28mm wide, the 700c is 23mm. I built up some wheels with the 700c rims for my singlespeed crosser and so far they have been great (ok, its only been a little over a hundred miles). I've bashed them over tree roots and thru one very deep pothole and they are still true. We'll see how they hold up long term but for now I'm confident taking them on some singletrack. Taking me on the singletrack is another story. PMC 03-28-2007, 09:01 AM Salsa has a new Delgado Race Disc 700c rim which is pretty nice from what I hear. I haven't ridden them but they look good and aren't super wide. I've got a set of Velocity VXC disc rims that are holding up well on a SS 29er and are also not super wide at 23.5 from edge to edge. |
