Heard a nasty rumor that Surf City will not run this year... Seems every year someone tries to give me bad news like this. Anybody know anything concrete? Like Jesse I keep hope alive. :)

View Full Version : Will Surf City Be on this year? djkellycx 06-29-2004, 07:58 PM Heard a nasty rumor that Surf City will not run this year... Seems every year someone tries to give me bad news like this. Anybody know anything concrete? Like Jesse I keep hope alive. :) oldskoolboarder 06-30-2004, 08:48 AM That would suck. This will be my first year of racing and was hoping to add Surf City to my list... dlbcx 06-30-2004, 06:44 PM One of my teammates had said the same thing. With the two primary promoters busy with their babies, I don't think it will happen, not unless someone picks up the job. noavg55 06-30-2004, 09:31 PM the ncnca website says no !that sucks i was planing on it this year Timgo2 07-18-2004, 07:15 PM Where was it in NCNCA that it said SCCX will be cancelled? The only thing it says in NCNCA is that the El Dorado Grand Prix set for July 31st is cancelled because the two promoters will be busy with their babies. cycloscott 07-19-2004, 08:22 AM On the front page of the NCNCA site, follow the link for "late breaking news". Scroll down for the June meeting report. I was at the May meeting when the issue first came up. And I spoke with Jenny Robinson at the CreamPuff in Oregon. She's out for sure this year. Nicole is 99% out as well. Jeff has been looking for a promoter, but hasn't had any success. I suppose it's possible that somebody would step in at the last minute, but it's not terribly likely. Jenny said that sites would be a problem this year anyway. Apparently, San Lorenzo Valley HS wasn't happy with the last mud-fest of the year. One of the other HSs (Aptos maybe) is doing a bunch of construction. The sawdust pile is too small for the current Surf City numbers, and I don't think anybody wants to race every week at the fairgrounds. There is hope that it will return for 2005. But as it is, we'll still have a ton of racing available. Pilarcitos has scaled back a bit and will only have 2 UCI races (Sat/Sun in November I believe), but will run a full non-UCI series. Sacramento is increasing their number of races. Reno is back as well with a UCI race. Rumor is that Central Coast will return. I expect Dave Carr will step up with a Napa race. And there's always East Bay. It looks like Districts will be the week after Nationals again. I heard that it might be an East Bay race, but nothing final yet. Other possibility is a restructuring of the BAR competition. There was discussion on selecting a single race from every series to count for the overall. I like the idea, since it's based more on results, and less on trying to race as many events as possible. (even though the quantity vs quality strategy tends to work in my favor) Timgo2 07-19-2004, 11:23 AM Thanks for the info. I'll keep looking for more cross info and I'll keep my fingers crossed that somebody picks up Surf City. dlbcx 07-19-2004, 10:36 PM Thanks for the info. And the purse was suppose to be all cash. Maybe someone from SoCal might have the skinny on what's going on. socalsinglespeed 07-23-2004, 12:43 PM I was talking to a teammate who said that Prenzlow is putting together a series in the SoCal. Hey All; I work very close with Brent and yes , Celo pacific and 3 or 4 other promoters are putting together a series. Last year we had a dozen races or so ( it might have been 15, I cant remember). This year looks to be even better. They have been discussing scheduling and standards for over 2 months now. Feel free to email me and I will keep all of you up to speed on whats happening. Ask to be put on the "cross" list. This season should be great. Mark@socalsinglespeed.com oldskoolboarder 07-23-2004, 02:48 PM But what about Norcal? socalsinglespeed 07-23-2004, 02:59 PM But what about Norcal? No idea, For me its more of a "Build it and I will come" thing. Brent might know though. I.ll work on it. cycloscott 07-23-2004, 03:27 PM Mark, what about CA state championships? Once again in SoCal I would guess? I'd love to see somebody make a play for getting that a bit further north at some point. No disrespect intended, but I can't imagine SoCal has anywhere near the 'cross scene as the Monterey to SF area. socalsinglespeed 07-23-2004, 03:41 PM The only thing I know is that there are promoters here who want it each year and apparenly apply for it. From the outside it looks like no one up north is applying for it. I could be wrong but the guys down here didn't seem to have too much problem getting it. I wouldn't mind it being up north either but I really don't care were it's at. Just as long as we have one. cycloscott 07-23-2004, 03:51 PM That's pretty much what I figured. There's enough difficulty sometimes getting somebody here to host District's. Ballpark idea of when it happens? I've got in-laws in LA. Might need to make a roadtrip. (race is usually in San Diego area right?) |
