I'm not 100% on which size frame to buy. I currently own a 52cm Cannondale Road bike and want to build a CX. I have a 30in inseam and stand 5' 8". I am looking at the Surly Cross Check and its a close match between the 50cm and 52cm. According to the comparision of my current road bike to the two Surlies, which would be a better fit? I do not plan to race my CX. Its going to replace my road bike and be used for riding around town, long epic mountain road rides and club riding. I also plan to use it to explore fire roads I find while road riding.

The best thing to do is test them out. Only true way to get a good fit. But if you can't then I'd say you should go for the 50cm. Due to different geometry, i.e. higher bb height, cross frames usually run a size larger then road frames. I ride a 54cm road frame and a 52cm cross.

I still say go to your local Surly dealer and check it out in person to make certain.
