... about to have an "Oh Shite!" moment and I knew it...
I was out scouting trail for the Hash that I'm signed up to hare for next month. ATPJunkie was supposed to come out riding but his vagina started hurting and he bailed. My friend Josh is borrowing my mtn bike and wanted to meet to ride. No worries, if you get there before I do, ride towards me. Somehow, we missed each other on a perfectly straight road.
So, I was out playing around in an industrial park, looking for the trail down from the mesa to the valley below for the chicken trial. I found several. One was WAY steep so I didn't come close to riding it.
The second didn't look TOO bad.
Started out over the lip.
Hmmm. This is steeper than it looks. I'll pop out both feet just in case.
SHITE! I can't stop this crazy thing! Skkkkiiiiiidddddd, BAM! Ugh...
I got about 10m down the hill before sliding to a stop with the bike partially on top of me. The bottom of this particular hill has a 3.5' boulder blocking access to the trail from the main trail below. A little farther to the right and I'd have whacked it but good!
So there I am, laying on the ground in a cloud of dust. I'm taking inventory... Everything work? Yup. Bike? On top of me. Am I hurt? Hmmmm, well it don't tickle...
I extricated myself from the bike and start out for home. At this point I'm about as far away from home as I can get on this particular ride. My left calf isn't feeling to terribly good clipping into the pedal. My hip's not feeling 100% either...
The worst pain of all is from the "road rash" on my left calf/shin and my left forearm. Darn but that stuff is a PITA.
The moral of my little tale? If you're gonna commit to descending a hill, by golly you'd better COMMIT. Do or do not do, there is no other way.
Keep the rubber side down! I'm off to the garage to see if I have to go searching for my frame pump.
