Hi All;
I need to work on a Octalink style Bottom Bracket (Ulterga 6500) and I was wondering if my BB tool for removing ISIS sylte BB cups would fit or do I need a new tool????
Thanks
i think it depends on the brand ISIS bb you have. If the tool you have is the standard FSA ISIS splined design it will work just fine on Octalink.

To elaborate just a bit... ISIS and Octalink refer to the interface between the BB and the cranks. Different brands use different interfaces between the BB and the BB tool.

Oh I see. Well then the tool I have is for an FSA Platium Pro TI BB and I wanted to try an use in on a Ulterga 6500 BB.
I will find out as soon as I try, but I didn't want to get into tearing the bike apart only to find out I didn't have the right tool.. espically when we want to go riding tomorrow :-)
You're good to go. that's the right one
Both ISIS and Shimano use the same 20-tooth tool interface in their cartridge bottom bracket cups. As PMC said, one tool like the Park BBT-2 (or the newer BBT-22) is all you need to remove or install either.
What's different is the spline pattern of the ISIS and the Shimano Octalink spindle, so the cranks have to match the spindle. But the spindle pattern doesn't matter in the installation or removal of your bottom bracket.

Actually, that's not entirely true. Truvativ ISIS bottom brackets require a different tool for BB installation. The BB cups for these have 8 notches, in a different place. FSA bottom brackets do use the same tool as Shimano, however.

Absolutely, should have known. I've got the 8-prong remover sitting on my work bench out in the garage . . .:(
