I'm new to the sport. I started off mtb'ing. A buddy of mine kept telling me how road biking was good training for Motorcycle racing. I thought I wanted to race motorcycles at one point. Now I'm into bicycling.

I started mtb'ing 3-5 times a week. I did a bit of research on road bikes and started browsing for prices. I found this R900 on craigslist for $750. I ended up paying $640. The seller said his wife bought it at a LBS in 2005. It seemed to fit, so I bought it.

My question is: did I get a good deal. I don't even see R900's on the Cannondale site?

By the way, I've had the bike for 2 weeks. The first week I didn't ride much because I didn't like the Look PP969 pedals. The cleats where too slippery. If I have to get injured, I want it to be glorious, rather than slipping and falling because of my cleats. I went with spd style cleats. Anyhow I've put more than 5.9 hours on my bike and 84+ miles on it. Yeah I know my time is slow, but I'm just starting. I say more than and + because I didn't have a computer my first ride. It took me 2 hours to do over 24 miles. I was getting a feel for the bike.

Anyhow, did I score on this bike or should I just be happy I have something to ride?

R900s are pretty good (as are all C'dale road frames). Your bike does seem to have a mix of components (Truvative, Campy -is it Chorus?-), which are fine for the price. The Cateye computer alone must be worth around 80us$, so I'd say....yes, it's a good deal.

Unfortunately, I bought the computer on my own. I had it on my MTB and broke the cadence arm. I sent it back to cateye and they sent me a new unit.

My c'dale did come with a computer. It was a polor. The guy said it needed a new battary. I changed it and it still didn't work. Oh well. I'm happy with my cateye. Since I got my road bike, I haven't been mtb'ing. I'll probably go this weekend.

Can anybody tell for sure what year this is?

Not a bad deal for the bike I think you came out OK, MSRP for this bike is $1500 new.
