I've got an old steel road frame converted to fixie. I dont want to remove the downtube bosses, but they do look a bit klunky. Any ideas ... maybe cover them with a plastic cap, or some type of hardware to give them a more finished look?

Go to an autoparts store and look at valve stem covers. They have dice, bullets, and other assorted covers.. An LBS that deals in BMX has the same thing

how about some old downtube shifters??? you can reach down and move 'em before you pedal away from the pack...

Yeah, dice 'em like I did. And if you don't like the dice at least you might get ideas for using other things.

three sliced knees by the razor sharp ones on my bike led me to wrap mine in yellow bar tape to match my bar tape. i later ground them off with a makita hand grinder and a hand file.
You could get a pair of STI cable stop adapters and remove the barrels.

Thanks for the ideas. I put a pair of basic black schraeder valve caps on there. Heated them up so they'd stretch a bit and then coaxed them on with a couple whacks with a hammer. Looking good ...

I think that's what I have. I originally thought they were downtube shifter adapters without the shifters, but this is it. The lbs guy put them on. They look OK but I'll have to check out an auto parts store to see what they have.
