So for the last 6months or so I've been drooly for the Spec. Roubiax, especially the Force equipped, but not looking too seriously due to $ not yet lined up to get that excited about possible ownership. Now that I'm closer to $ lined up, I took a closer look. Max frame size is a measely 61cm. I ride 64cm. Seems like those cushy "zertz" and I won't have that dreamy future together on any number of future centuries.

Anyone happy with their long-distance plush ride AND tall? I'm 6'6" and fit fine on my oldschool steel Centurion LeMans 64cm. Just want the very-necessary update on technology as well as drop a few pounds on the weight for the long-distance races/rides I plan on doing the rest of my life. I've looked at Lemond, Klein, and a few others, but unless I go cu$tom and score a Merlin or other fine plushness, I haven't found yet something that I can continue to save for.

Thanks!

Have you tried riding something with a little bit wider tires? Something in a 700x28 range will improve the cushy factor a lot, so look for a frame with decent tire clearance.

For bikes in your price range you could always go custom steel. That way not only does it fit properly but you can make it as stiff or plush as you want. Several builders can make you a complete bike with force for under $3000, and likely a little less.

I know I was able to get my Curtlo with 10 speed Ultegra for just a hair over $2000.00.

Right-ON Wookie! Great job with the challenge of weight loss! Thanks for the heads-up on a custom steel. Bicycling gave Serotta it's 2007 plush award, and it's a steel rig. I checked them out via webby and found the same wrong answer (sized up to 61cm) Oh well, now to check pricy with Indy Fab and others I can find for custom. Thanks again for the idea/suggestion.

Thanks on the weight loss compliments...:D

Remember with any custom builder you can get custom geometry. You want a 64cm TT? no problem. You want a plush ride? No problem. If their stock bikes geometry fits every where else but the TT length, no problem, they can lengthen it.

Serotta, Indy Fab, Gunner, Curtlo, Carl Strong, Erickson, Co-Motion, Seven, etc. can all do it for you. In some cases for somebody your size custom is a better option because not only can they get the geometry correct for you, but the tube sizes also. I know on my bike the ride is plush, but the drivetrain is very stiff, something you probably won't get on a stock bike (especially with big guys).

If they can build bikes for guys like Yao Ming, Shaq, etc. building a bike for a guy 6'6" shouldn't be a problem.

Just find a builder that's in your price range, talk with them and if it all sounds right, have them build you a bike.

Right on! I checked Zinn's site and thought great things right off the bat seeing that he's also 78" tall. Checked Indy, Strong, and a few others as well prior to your most recent comment Wookie. Will be doing more research and counting my pennies. Thanks! Also I found a great page of Frequently Made Statements/Asked Questions HERE (http://www.henryjames.com/faq.html) from the lug people at Henry James. I'm pretty sold on Steel after reading that, and wonder where the rebuttal is (if possible) from the alternative camps [especially for a big-guy like me who wants fast centuries and club rides in the mix].

Rock on~
