I've recently purchased the 2004 CAAD7 team frame. It was built to use the Cannondale BB, but I decided to get the BB adapter and use some Shimano stuff on it instead.

Apparently, according to the directions, you just spread some green loc-tite and slide the adaptor in using a bearing press tool. I took the adaptor and frame to my LBS (non-C'dale dealer) where the owner was very skeptical it was going to work. He foresaw some slipping issues once the adaptor was installed and pressure was put on the cranks.

Has anyone done this? Is my LBS owner right to have concerns, or is he completely out to lunch? Will the adaptor work itself loose over time? I plan on putting an Ultegra 10sp crankset on, if that matters any.

Healthnet is using an adapter in all of the bikes. If Karl Menzies has not had a problem then I doubt many will. You will be fine.

Follow the directions from Cannondale and it will work just fine, you can download the pdf on their website if you don't have it. I'm guessing you already have the Shimano crankset? If not, I would get the SI Hollowgram crankset, it's lighter, stiffer and less ugly than any Shimano crankset. More and more companies will start using the BB30 standard. Specialized already does and have a carbon crankset that fits the SI frames... Of course, the adaptor can be taken off if you ever want to upgrade but it shouldn't be installed and taken off too often.

I thought you can't get the adaptor out once it is fitted, or is that only when factory fitted.

Andy I think what you heard is that once the adapter is installed its best not to remove it especially on the carbon frames where it should be permanent.
