The Versus coverage of Romandie was maybe their worst coverage of a race yet. 10 minutes devoted to the first 4 stages, then 1hour and 50 minutes to the final time trial-most of which was totally useless in terms of the final outcome (hooray for cycling.tv and actually getting to see these races).

"...final time trial-most of which was totally useless in terms of the final outcome..." Wasn't the GC totally determined by the final TT? Horner went from 1st to 5th? The top 4 were in order of the TT finish?

Have no idea about the coverage, but the TT was the most important stage - something I don't like btw.

watching a TT on tv is sooo boring. My wife couldnt believe it when i was *****ing that it would be 2 hours of time trialing. I was hoping for a bit more action from the other stages, rather than like 2 minutes, then all TT since that is the stage that took place today. Beats watching rodeo, barely.

I think it is because that was the day's stage.

Still pretty dumb.

vs just cant win. last night as i zipped through my dvr i thought, "why didnt they have a 1 hr re-cap show then 1 hour of the TT?" then i remembered that some people here flamed them for NOT showing the TT coverage of a race a year or so ago. i think they complained that they already knew the outcome of the previous stages from reading/watching it online. i believe they will never win if they only show the last stage of any race.

the classics coverage is another thing. 60 minutes for p-r was a stupid decision. they ran about 10 minutes of "up till now in the race..." maybe 20 minutes of race (during which either in-house editing or the french tv coverage couldnt tell you who was in the lead and who was in the back), and the rest was tech packages and teases for bull riding. don't get me wrong, i like the tech stuff, but more at the very start of the show or during stage races. they really had it right 3-7 years back.

the nbc rookie coverage of cycling earlier this year looked stellar compared to vs so far...imagine if they could devote time/resourced to cycling? just think what could they do with cx in the fall if the races were on saturdays...

Why on earth would they choose to devote two hours to a show they promote as "The Tour of Romandie", Then they do just what you describe. Unreal. As long as the whole show was going to be formatted as a recap show, they should have had the freedom and time to do the exact opposite of what they did. They could easily have put together 1h15min of coverage from the first four stages, and only showed the top 4 contenders start the tt.

Well, Versus can't keep everyone happy, but still, their choice seemed bizzare to me.

The only coverage worth watching on Versus is the TDF, live in the morning, because it's pretty hard for them to screw that up. I don't bother with anything else they show, because it's awful, and frankly, it's insulting to real fans of bike racing. Nobody should watch it. I'd rather have no coverage than unwatchable coverage.

agreed. Normally I'm happy to just have *some* coverage on VS, but the TdR coverage was especially bleh.
