Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I have to sell my new Cervelo R3. It's a 61 cm with full Campy Record. It probably has about 200 miles on it, but I'm not sure what to ask for it. What would be a reasonable amount for my bike? Thanks.

why are you selling it?
I don't think you'll get what the bike is worth, I know I'm loving mine!:)

My friends all backed out of a vacation deal and now I'm stuck with a $4,300 rental for July. I would have asked for the money up front, but they are all close friends and I'm still shocked that they have done this to me. I'm still going on vacation, but it's going to cost me waaaaayyyy more than I had anticipated.

If they are forcing you to sell your bike because of something they did than they should no longer be called close friends.

How about trying to fill up the house with people from RBR? Turn it into a cycling vacation/gathering. Where is the house and when is it booked for?

Key West, Florida....not the greatest cycling town in the world. I'm going to spend a month snorkeling, kayaking, flats fishing, etc.

That's lame....close friends don't do that. Why not see if you can sub-let it before selling the R3.....You'll more miles(no pun intended) out of the R3 than a month of vacation.

Anyway, regarding the OP's question, I sold my brand new R3 frame six months ago for $1900. It was with a used Easton EC90 fork. With full Campy Records and depending on the type of wheels, you're still probably going be looking at something around $3000, probably not more unless you have some truely high end wheels. As usual, look at eBay for answers.

Having said that, no vacation is worth my bike unless I just didn't really like it.

My 61cm CF frame just got hit by a truck. If I could get past the thumb shifters--why does Campy continue to make that gaffe!--I would be very interested. What wheels are you running? Once you come up with a price, let me know. I'm in the midst of sorting out an insurance claim (thanks to all who posted on my "Hit by Truck: Advice?" thread--very helpful), so I'm not sure what I'll be able to do, but it might give me a nice opportunity for an upgrade. As a matter of fact, I pulled up the Cervelo website today at work and drooled all over myself.

The thumb shift is everything! After using it I could never go back and be truly happy with my ride.

If the expensive part is about Cervelo, that's a bit strange. There's plenty of bikes out there that cost more than Cervelo.

But the thing about cervelo is that all their stuff is top of the line, you cant really upgrade frames. the soloist team is probably one of the best frames for everything out there, im sure some will agree, and you can buy the complete bike for 2400 CAD thats probably around 2000US. im pretty sure thats a steal

but yeah if the R3 is in good shape you should be able to swing a decent premium for it. its like a 5-6000 bike im guessing? you should at least be able to get 3 or more if its in good shape

While I would like to run Campy stuff because it's just so damn cool, I kind of have abnormally large hands, and just can't seem to find a comfortable place on thumb shiftered hoods, especially while climbing out of the saddle. Anyone else have this problem?

I like SRAM's twist on shifting--after riding it, I've found it to be very intuitive (despite my prejudice that it would be counterintuitive. . .if that makes any sense) and crisp and fast.

Anyway, I might be persuaded for the right price, but this guy I guess isn't interested.

The carbon soloist sl frame is $4500. Definately on the upper end of the spectrum of expensive frames...

Yes, but not that much more than other bikes of similar caliber. Colnago Extreme C and Extreme Power, Parlee, etc.

$5400 for the Soloist Carbon DuraAce is quite reasonable (in comparison to others). That's what Trek's charging for their Madones.
