Picked up a set of Velocity Aerohead rims over the weekend and need to figure out some hubs to build them with. I am running SRAM Force casettes thus Dura Ace 7800 hubs are out. Here is what I am considering:

White Industries H1 - The current favorite among the lightweight crowd. No experience with these hubs but online feedback looks good. Might be a little tougher for me to acquire.

DT Swiss 240 - I have built with these and feel comfortable with the star ratchet design. They seem very expensive though.

Chris King - Bling Bling colors are nice. Rumors of bearing / seal drag are a little concern. Would probably work a pro deal on this if this was my choice.

What else should I look at? Tune hubs seem a little out of my price range. American Classic seems to have intermittent QC issues. Mike Garcia's hubs seem priced right but he doesn't list a 32h version.

The DT Swiss hubs seem very expensive? I think they're freaking outrageous. Cost on the rear hub is almost more than retail on a set of 2007 Record, and I know they can't be any better than Record. King, to my ears, are offensively loud, but pro-deal prices are good, and the color and drilling choices via pro-deal are freaking sweet. If they had a Campy cassette body option, I'd probably go that route on my own ride. The Whites look good, but I'm not a huge fan of cartridge bearings (not for any good reason - it's just a personal, subjective thing).

Why can't you do Dura Ace 7800? Because of the cassette splines? I think they're great hubs, and I also think that an Ultegra cassette is lighter than the current Sram model, but I'm not sure. In my opinion, the Sram cassettes are cheezy, and the least thought-out part of the package. I'd go with Dura Ace hubs and replace your cassette with Ultegra (or Dura Ace, but they're spendy).

SRAM cassettes use the Shimano 9s shallow spline pattern which has been around for a while. The Dura-Ace 10s (7800) pattern has deeper splines.

I like the SRAM 12 - 26T cassette and will probably be getting an 11 - 26T cassette for mountain descents....

Quick hijack here. I just started using a King set on my Record bike. I got a set of .03mm spacers that go in between each cog and cog-set (DA 12-25 cassette). I put one before the cassette totaling 6 spacers. So far no clearance issues and shifts better than when I had a stock DA cassette back there. Overall, the cassette spacing with the spacers is the same as Campy. Each individual cog is almost exactly in the same place and well within tolerances of the rear mech

Back to OP, I'm partial to White Industries on that list for the titanium freehub body. If you go King, consider the steel hub upgrade if the cassette has individual cogs (haven't seen the Sram cassette yet). Pro deal on King can't be beat. Bearing drag isn't an issue under load. I was doing just fine this last weekend on them.

DT 240s bling?? The DT 190 Ceramic is! :D

If you can get Pro-Deal on CK then go for it! Amazing hubs!
