So I've been looking for a great deal on a great road bike that is race ready, or at least close to it. I want quality, durability, looks, and every other good thing someone wants in a bike. Basically, I want a racing road bike that I can put a lot of miles on to prepare for collegiate racing. I've never raced before, but I plan to this fall in college, and thus, I'm looking for a bike at a good price. Blah blah blah.

Anyways, been eyeing a 2006 Bianchi L'una 928 carbon, with full centaur, and campy vento wheels. With a trade-up to AmClassic 350's/420's, the whole thing will probably run me about $1300.

For those with knowledge, is the Luna a great bike for me? I've also been eyeing the Motobecane Le Champion SL, really nice, full ultegra, am classic 420's, all for $1295 from bikesdirect.com. Would the Luna be superior if for the same price?

Furthermore, through the cycling team, I can get a full ultegra equipped Aegis Victory with am classic 350's at the price of $1700. For those familiar with Aegis, that is a darn good deal. That being said, depending on the relative quality of the Aegis over what bike I get, I might sell/trade in for it.

Basically, a plea for help. What should I do?

I just bought a leftover 06 L'una brand new with Camp Chorus components and Eurus wheels for $2700 which was pretty much my LBS owner's cost. The bike had an MSRP of $5400. I love the bike. It is an outstandingly good looking bike and rides like a dream. At the price you mentioned it would be an incredible steal.

I test rode that but opted for the steel '06 Pinella w/ Centaur and got it for about $1900 (Retailed for $3000). I hope you own the Bianchi by now 'cause that is too good to pass up. The retail on the L'una w/ Centaur has to be $3500.

I was just going to say you probably transposed you numbers. The Luna on sale for $3100 would be a good deal. For $1300 I would venture to say it was hot. Do you buy all of your bike from pawn brokers?:D

I guess blindman didn't say he was looking at an LBS, so you may be right Alex. I got my Pinella at such a good deal through the Bianchi rep at an LBS event. I would stay away from grey market goods and pawn shops as I do not believe the mob will do tuneups and honor the bike's warranty  .
