I bought a Trek Incite 11i cycle computer and the magent for the cadence sensor fell out during my first ride. I tried replacing it with part of a fridge magnet but it didn't work any suggestions?

FutureGlue or something similiar.

Return it to where you bought it?

A replacement magnet? (Cateye sells a replacement cadence magnet). I just bought one at performance bike.

+1 on this if you can't get an exchange where you bought the thing, and the manufacturer won't sell/give you a replacement (look them up on line and call or email them). Unless your computer is very unusual, any cadence sensor magnet that mounts similarly should work.

Any decent LBS will have generic magnets that can be attached to a spoke.

alright, but why wouldn't a normal fridge magnet work? aren't all magnets the same?

Your fridge magnet may not pull hard enough to trip your computer's switch. Then again, it might work if you can get it close enough (you know about the inverse-square law, right?). Try adjusting the sensor placement so it's as close as seems safe.

Go to Radio Shack and purchase a small REM, stick it to the back of your pedal spindle, adjust your senor position on the chain stay, and you're good to go. Works great, eliminates the need for fussy tolerance between magnet and pickup, and will never fall out.
