View Full Version : Most-Watched Movies By Men And By Women
mohair_chair 05-10-2007, 08:06 AM Here's a semi-interesting list I found. A survey found that male fans of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi have seen them an average of 20 times, while women who confessed to liking Dirty Dancing tend to have watched it 15 times. I don't know about 20 times for the Star Wars films, but I've definitely seen them a lot (except for Jedi--Ewoks are the suxxor!).
The strange one is #9 for women: The Matrix. WTF? This doesn't even make the male list.

Call me old fashioned, but The Matrix seems too geeked out to appeal to women. If Keanu is the reason, then why not a better choice, like "Speed?" I can see that movie being far more appealing to women than The Matrix.
weltyed 05-10-2007, 08:15 AM this survey is false.
love actually fur shure should be on the guys list

uzziefly 05-10-2007, 08:20 AM Is there a really feel-good movie now about maybe family or something that I could rent? I could use a form of vicariousness now....

This list is BS. Where is Bridget Jones Diary, or the Titanic, which was one of the highest grossing films of all time! The women's list looks more like the films that they watched while with their husbands/ boyfriends.
It does not look like the list of what they would WANT to watch..
SilasCL 05-10-2007, 09:23 AM This has to be made up. Bladerunner #4? And no Indiana Jones???
Did they survey ten people for this list or what?

undies 05-10-2007, 09:41 AM +1 on that.
... and where are Scarface and Full Metal Jacket on the men's list???And New Wave Hookers?
bigrider 05-10-2007, 09:43 AM That list is a joke without Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail.
Every guy likes those two.

I ackshually kinda liked that movie. Does that mean there's something wrong with me (NTTAWWT)?
mohair_chair 05-10-2007, 09:47 AM Did they survey ten people for this list or what?
Logically, they must at least surveyed 20 people. 10 men, 10 women. It's a British paper, so maybe the Brits are not normal.
SilasCL 05-10-2007, 09:47 AM +1 on that.
... and where are Scarface and Full Metal Jacket on the men's list???
Really, you can watch Full Metal Jacket over and over?
Why not watch Platoon or Deer Hunter every week? You might actually turn yourself into a sociopath...
rogger 05-10-2007, 10:39 AM This has to be made up. Bladerunner #4? And no Indiana Jones???
Did they survey ten people for this list or what?
Yeah, Bladerunner should be #1.
chatterbox 05-10-2007, 10:40 AM +eleventy to the bs call on this list. I'm a woman, and I've only seen 4.33 films on the chick's list. (1st of the lord of the rings trilogy gets the fraction) And other than Pretty Woman and Sound of Music, those aren't big repeat movies. What about Steel Magnolias, or as aforementioned, Love Actually?
btw - uzzie, Love Actually is a good pick-me-up movie. Not really a chick flick, and very well acted throughout. It does take place at Christmastime, though.
Elfstone 05-10-2007, 11:04 AM Yeah, Bladerunner should be #1.
+1 BLADERUNNER!!!
Peace
theBreeze 05-10-2007, 11:11 AM ick, no way
The best feel good movies that still have a bit of an edge:
The Secrest of Roan Innish
Whale Rider
Bend It Like Beckham
Jim Nazium 05-10-2007, 11:36 AM Really, you can watch Full Metal Jacket over and over?
That's how I memorized all of Sgt Hartman's lines.
"You're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpice!"
wayneanneli 05-10-2007, 11:40 AM What about When Harry Met Sally? Notice how all the guy movies are sci-fi or violence...
innergel 05-10-2007, 11:44 AM Is there a really feel-good movie now about maybe family or something that I could rent? I could use a form of vicariousness now....
Bad Lieutenant
Starliner 05-10-2007, 11:49 AM I would have thought Deep Throat would have made the guys list. But it's all shoot 'em up, and no bang-bang. :ciappa:
dr hoo 05-10-2007, 12:12 PM probably b/c of Keanu Reeves im guessing
Or it could be that chicks like films that have chicks with guns. My wife loves chicks with guns movies, just as one example.
But it is the brits, who knows with that lot!
MikeBiker 05-10-2007, 12:57 PM The Matrix is a chick flick.
