i have a 2003 allez cro-mo that i've probably only put 500 miles on or so that i'm thinking of selling. i've since started riding much more and bought an Onix to replace it, so i've just have this allez around for quick trips and such....

minus a pretty serious gash in the paint (right down to the steel - ouch!) by the watter bottle cage on the right side, it's in great shape. all 105 components with the acceptable alx330 wheels.

my question is, what to sell it for? i haven't got a clue! can anyone help?

I would guess in the $500 range but check the completed items in ebay.

It's always good to have a backup bike for rain, friends, commuting, etc. You won't get what you paid for it, so why not keep it?

it's a 54cm frame

yeah it's a great backup bike. but what i wanna do right now is buy an old beater bike and leave it locked up at a BART station out here so i can commute. and i don't want a bike like this to sit at a BART station where it'll get scratched/stolen eventually :)

as a rainy day back up it might be worth keeping alone though - good point. course once the rainy season starts out here i usually just stick to the trainer when it's wet...

of course, with the panic people are having right now about carbon frames and trainers, maybe the Allez becomes the trainer bike and the Onix waits for real road miles :)

With only 500 miles on it I suggest you sideline the Onix and ride it more. You may just find that you prefer it to the Onix. Doesn't seem like you have giving it a fair chance.

i didn't ride it long enough to get a true feel, that is for sure.
but i wanted to upgrade the components on the bike - the 105 were fine, but not great and i wanted a compact double instead of triple. once you totalled up all the changes i wanted to make it seemed silly not to just go bike shopping :)
i rode a lot of bikes (caad9, synapse, roubaix pro, tarmac pro, scott cr1) but the onix stood out to me...love the feel of that bike!

I think $500 is a fair estimate based on your description.

Yeah, that'll be gone in about 5 minutes. :) I would put it at around 400-500$. If it were mine, I'd really try to hang on to it though. I always thought that was a pretty cool bike.

I think suggesting that Shimano 105 felt inadequate to your needs at 500 miles sounds like a "princess and the pea" problem, but hey, it is your money.

I just sold my '04 frame on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260110209311&rd=1&rd=1

Just remember, if it is a complete bike, shipping is quite expensive. I got burned a bit on shipping the mtb I sold.

well, you're free to make whatever judgment you choose.

but for me, the 105 triple was always noisy and couldn't ever be adjusted by me or a LBS to run smoothly. they get the job done i spose, but at mile 50 i was tired of hearing the racket of rubbing chains as well as clunky and missed shifts.

maybe i was incompetent, and maybe both LBSs i used were as well, but considering that triples are NOTORIOUS for being difficult and the newest 105 groups are mentioned by many as a big improvement, you may wanna allow for the fact that there's something to my claim.

maybe a compact 105 would have solved everything, i dunno. but i wasn't going to spend hundreds to replace the triple with a compact and just hope. and i rode a bike with an ultegra triple to compare and the difference was clear - cleaner shifts, better feel - so i had a comparison point.
