View Full Version : Joseba Beloki?
ashpelham 05-16-2007, 08:47 AM I was wondering what has become of Beloki? I am sure that I could google him and find out pretty quick, but it seems since ONCE fell apart, he followed suit. I know he attempted a comeback....I'm attempting to garner conversation about a once-promising rider...So, what has become of Senor Beloki?
z ken 05-16-2007, 08:54 AM after that nasty fall in to tour in 03 not many if any would return to top form. give him some credit as he tried to bounce back and did race for couple more seasons.
Dan Gerous 05-16-2007, 08:56 AM He was one of the riders on Astana that were thrown out before the Tour for their implications with Fuentes... Never raced after that I think.
Oversane 05-16-2007, 09:01 AM Beloki was one of my heroes. Too bad he's a doper. Too bad Heras is a doper. I just hope it doesn't turn out that Basso is a doper. And please, please, please I hope Vino always said "No" to doping.

This is already known. Sorry all you got left is Vino and there are suspicions he will end up involved in OP.

I haven't given up on Basso....yet. And I didn't know there were suspicions about Vino. But then why should that be a shocker? If you're going to compete and beat dopers then maybe there's only one way to do that. Which raises questions about a certain other Tour champ.

You're a bit late to the party then...Basso has given up on Basso:

stevesbike 05-16-2007, 12:45 PM can't decide if Beloki or Mayo is my favorite formerly-juiced-up--now-riding-like-crap-rider. Beloki was one of the few who could attack Armstrong while on the juice, then there's Mayo's ride up Ventoux a few years back at Dauphine.

I think he's still lying on the road, covered in melted tar, somewhere in rural france.......crying.

If he's still wearing ONCE pink or if he just goes to that spot in his street clothes and breaks down.

From what I remember, Beloki followed Armstrong over hill and dale all the way to a comfortable podium finish. The only time he ever really started to attack resulted in misfortune. Nice guy though.
Laurent Fignewton 05-18-2007, 07:19 AM Last year, pre-OP, Beloki was making comments about how he hadn't felt this good in years, was looking forward to the season, etc. And Manolo Saiz commented too that Beloki, in training, was the best he'd ever seen him. Saiz made some comment about Vino being the main contender for the TdF with Beloki riding in support, and Beloki replied, "Well, we'll see about that." I was so eager to see Beloki & Vino in combo at last year's TdF. I thought they'd be the surprise headaches for Basso & Ullrich.
Ahhhh, the Tour That Could Have Been.

With freshly boosted blood, he better have been in form!
Laurent Fignewton 05-18-2007, 07:43 AM Yes, and not the cheap stuff either! Top quality from the best dope doc in all of Europe, I'm sure.
Still, I kinda wish OP had blown open *after* last year's TdF. I know that's a wrong attitude.
