Our family has shipped a few over there.

What do you need? Are you with the Guard? Can your local USO or MilSpouse help out?

When I was over there, bicycles were taboo on our FOB (Taji). A lot depends on who the commanding officer is and what he allows.

Thanks for the response. May I ask you to elaborate? Did you ship a purchase and are you a retailer? Or was this a personal bike shipped through USPS or military flight? I am a mobilizing reservist and was made to understand that there is no transporting of extra personal items, such as bikes, and that such items may be purchased in country only, from the NEX for example, or in used condition from departing personnel if such is available.

I will be on a larger base where I understand people are already using bikes, where conditions currently are safer and where there is a need also for practical reasons, such as commuting, because some buildings are a mile or so apart, such as living areas and messing facilities. A fellow RBR user told me she saw a thread about riding in Iraq so I am trying to scare up a response from someone who can verify that info. Thanks for the response.

Understood. I was there from April of 2004 into 2005, so things were not the safest. I wish I did have a bike to use, because Taji is HUGE.

Last summer VeloNews had a series from a guy riding in Iraq. I don't recall where we was located but it was good info
