I've got a honey colored brooks saddle that's started to leave brown stains on my pants. When I wear bike shorts, it's obviously not a problem. Last week, however, I rode to the farmer's market with my wife, and not wanting to look too out of place, I wore a pair of regular kahki shorts. Wen we got to the market and I bent over to lock up, my wife informed me that it looked like I had soiled myself. Sure enough, there was a saddle-shaped brown stain on my shorts.

Anyone else get this? Any suggestions on how to prevent it from happening in the future?

I've never had that problem, but I always wear black cycling shorts. Have you put Proofide on your saddle? That might help the problem (or make it worse).

Is the saddle new? I've heard that it can happen with new saddles.

nope, it's an older saddle- I've probably got 2000 miles on it now, and I proofhide it pretty regularly. It just started doing this recently. Weird.

Did it get wet recently?

I thought of that, too, but the only wet it gets is butt-sweat. Isn't that an appealing thought... I'm betting that it's the butt-sweat that's doing it, and the only way to fix that is to cover my @ss in plastic or antiperspirant. Hmmm... neither of those is particularly appealing... Or, just always wear bike shorts.

I gotta tell you, I love my brooks- it's easilly the most comfortable saddle I've ever ridden. That being said, I'm starting to look for a saddle that's got a similar shape but without all the maintenance issues- you know, a saddle I can ride in the rain without worrying about, weighs maybe a bit less, does not leave marks on my clothes...

Any thoughts?

Imagine the same problem, but with a GREEN Brooks. :-)
