I'm going to be helping out during an event at my work. Talking to people about cycling to wrok as an alternative. Anyone else ever doing anything similar? Just looking for different ideas to make it more interesting. I already have a blown up poster size map of my route, my bike and gear on display, and will be showing how easy it is to change a tire.

I recently did a short seminar at a local shop in conjunction with bike month. You want my outline? I pretty much plagiarized it from the many available web sites out there.

Sure! And everybody plagerizes from everyone else.

Regarding tire changing demonstration:
Make sure you have the easiest tire combo mounted that day. Nothing worse than a group of potential commuters watching your sweat and curse as you break a tire lever. 8-)
Just take a photo of the prices at the local gas station and public parking lot. Blow them up real large.
You don't really need to do anything else.

I've never put one on, but I've attended two. Things that I liked.
1) They had a representive from Metro Transit who offers a "Guranteed Ride Home" Program (cab fare reimbursement program) who enrolled people on the spot. That made the "what do I do if I have an emergency at home" objection easy for the presenter to handle.
2) Door prizes. Some blinkies and local bike maps (both about $10 value).
3) The presenter did not sugar coat some parts of bike commuting. He explained that nobdody has a bike path that starts at their front door and ends at the office. Mixing with traffic will be requiried and then went onto explaining some tips for doing just that.
4) Recommended practing before it matters. Ride to the office on a pleasant Saturday to get familiar with the route, the pot holes, the traffic control, etc
5) Remind them that they don't have to ride all the time to be a bike commuter. It's OK to let weather, family obligations, fatigue, and "I'm Late" stop you from riding and go in the "old fashioned" way.

Does anyone have a commuting presentation that they could share with me? I've offered to do bike commuting presentation during one of our "brown bag lunches" at work. I'm putting mine on PowerPoint, and would be glad to share with others when it's done. Send me a PM if you've got something to share. Thanks.

Mine was more of a info booth type deal. My work provided handouts on commuting by bike and I had my bike there and a map of my commute blown up. I just sat and answered questions for a few hours. Sorry, I don't have a presentation or documentaion I can send.

Hey, I am liberally "borrowing" photos from the Touring & Commuting page to help illustrate my presentation. Hope nobody minds...
