View Full Version : Iraqi Captive/Prisoners?
Snakebit 05-28-2007, 07:13 AM The news reports that American and Iraqi forces rescued some 40 captives held by a yet unidentified faction in Iraq. Some had been captive for 4 months and some showed evidence of torture. I wonder why the Red Crescent representative stationed at this foacilty hadn't reported this to the UN and why the world body allowed this to slip under the radar. After all, the US is the only force in the region that refuses to abide by Geneva Conventions and UN regulation of the treatment of prisoners. Aren't they?
rogger 05-28-2007, 07:28 AM What makes you think Red Crescent reps were stationed at an Al-Qaeda hide-out?

(Whispered) - I think Snake is trying to be sarcastic.

With Snake, sarcasm and blatant stupidity dance on the edge of a razor.

I just assumed that they were the good guys because the anti war faction here never seems to find fault with them. It would naturally follow that they were in compliance with all the concepts of humane prisoner treatment because the defenders of humanity here would surely react loudly and at great length to any violations. Wouldn't they?

We can't control what the enemy does but we can control what we do.

Do you suppose it might have some effect if you and the rest of the oh so vocal critics of US policy condemned them as loudly and repeatedly as you do the US? I do. Their transgressions are actually what you accuse us of doing in your zealous exagerations.

The Bush administration acted without hesitation to end the practice of human pyramids. It is now only practiced in high school and college gyms...Evil is difficult to root out.

Can you please point out where I've exaggerated our treatment of enemy captives? Or where I accused our folks of "transgressions"? Links would do just fine.
Fact is you can't because I haven't. Why is that, you may ask? Because we have no way of knowing how we treat our prisoners.... except for a few not so shining examples of which you are so proud to say "Americans did that."
IMO, kill them. It's really, really simple.
Evil is difficult to root out.
Tell me about it! We've been trying to get the Republicans out of DC for the past 15 or so years now. They're like weeds in need of Agent Orange in a big way. :)

Really? What effect do you suppose it may have? They don't care that we're blowing them up. What makes you think they'll care if we wag our fingers at them?
MR_GRUMPY 05-28-2007, 01:12 PM My only criticism of US policy is that we are there in the first place. There have been some "war crimes" on the US side. Some serious enough to warrent prison (or even death). On the other hand, many of the "fighters" on the other side, have such a small regard for human life, that they deserve death upon capture. (I'm sure that they feel the same about us)

Are you advocating that we should lower ourselves to their level?
If so, couldn't you then call our troops "terrorists?"
It's a thinker, so take your time before responding...

We are nowhere near their level and never will be. What I advocate is that you direct your vitriol outward, stop with the phony analogies and try to effect change on a broader scale where it is truely needed. That's why we are involved in this current dustup in the first place, attempting to effect change.

It's raw but it is the reality of the enemy we face.

I wouldn't make it as the head of any U.S. military as I know for sure I would have stockpiled as much bacon grease as possible and hit 'em in the only way they understand and fear!
