In an interview (http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Top_General_underestimates_US_fatalities_in_0528.h tml) this morning, Gen Pace tried to link the deaths on 911 to that of the soldiers who've died in Iraq, and said "that number was fast approaching the number of those murdered on 911."

Well, Gen. Pace, don't you think you should know exactly how many of your soldiers have died in Iraq? 3,455. That's 455+ more than the civilians that died on 911.

I could see a civilian getting it wrong, but not the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

On all days, Memorial Day, to forget how many of your soldiers who have fallen?!?

This really is unacceptable and disrespectful!!!

This is as bad as Rumsfeld using an automated signing machine sign the letters of condolence sent to the families of the fallen.

No the General is correct in regards to combat casualties. It's disgusting that the media wants to hype every dead service member when it's convenient. You see, our soldiers operate in dangerous places (places with lots of v.d.:rolleyes: ) and operate really dangerous equipment day in, day out, war or peace. The number of service members killed in hostile action in Iraq, is just about equal to the number of service members who have died due to accidents and illness in the same time period. In the 27 years between cessation of hostilities in Vietnam and beginning of hostilities in Iraq, more members of the United States Armed Forces died than were killed, in combat, in 19 years of the Vietnam war, where is your grieving for them? Oh, right you really don't give a ****.

I don't think you can count just combat deaths either. If they're conducting dangerous operations as a result of the war and die in some other manner than actual combat, one would still hold the Iraq war ultimately responsible for their death, right?

Acknowledging every dead soldier is what Memorial Day is about. Wrapping yourself in a shroud of the dead who cannot speak, maximizing the deaths that fit your purpose all year long, ignoring the ones who don't, is why I could never support your cause.
