Woman Shot in Head in D.C.
June 1, 2007 - 1:00pm
WASHINGTON - A woman is in critical condition after being shot in the head at a bus stop in Northwest on Friday.

The woman was waiting for a Metro bus at a crowded stop at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Columbia Road when she was shot in the head by a man who fled on a bicycle, D.C. Police say.

The shooting occurred just before 9 a.m., as students at nearby Bruce Monroe Elementary School were starting classes.

Bruce Monroe Elementary School is on lockdown and students will have recess indoors.

The principal says that at least four of her students witnessed the shooting.

The woman, who is described as a Latino woman in her mid to late 30s, is in critical condition at Howard University Hospital.

Police are looking for suspects and say they are not sure why the woman was targeted.

Hate the title!

A#@hole murder flees on bike would be more acurate! There is probably more to the story that we do not know about. I hope they catch the shooter.

I'll bet the rider wasn't wearing a helmet or spandex.

Horrible.

Yeah, just because he fled on a bicycle doesn't mean that he is a cyclist. The heading is very misleading. If he fled on foot, would the heading have read "Jogger shoots woman in head"? I think not. Just a negative spin on cyclists. The heading should say "Maniac shoots woman in head and then flees on bicycle." Not surprised to hear about something like this in DC, just surprised to see that it was in NW instead of SE or SW. Maybe one of those guys strayed into the wrong section of town. Too bad none of the witnesses were carrying a gun. Then, maybe the cops might not be wasting their time looking for the perp. Man do I hope they catch him.

Luckily that's the headline in the post and not the actual newspaper, shows the media is not as sensationalist as we might like to believe.

Yeah, just because he fled on a bicycle doesn't mean that he is a cyclist. The heading is very misleading.

that's why I called him a bicyclist and not a full fledged cyclist.
