I am under the impression that Assos makes such a product... I will attempt to look for it.

Just curious - why not wear something like a 30spf or higher sun screen? Seems like it would be less constricting and cooler for your rides in the sun. I use the Coppertone sport for both my road commuting/fun rides and mountain biking year round. It works great and resists even wiping away sweat with my gloves.

I might consider trying the arm covers. I use Banana Boats 50 spf, with the highest concentration of TiO2 I could find (2.4%), and still my arm darkens after 1-2 h rides. My skin may be overly sensitive but it would seem that broad spectrum spf 50 with TiO2 should prevent this. Clothing might be the way to go for me and others with this level of sensitivity.

I'm the kind of guy that can get a serious burn walking 2 blocks to the gracery store on a sunny day. I wear sun screen constantly. I have some that's SPF 50, although I can't remember what brand it is right now. I carry a 3-4 oz. bottle with me in a jersey pocket, so that I can reapply it as needed.

You could try looking at the Under Armour Heatgear, I have a compression fit long sleeve that I've been wearing under my jersey.

yeah, allen iverson and other b-ball players always seem to be wearing some type of goofy sleeve on one arm or one leg for no reason.

The problem with sunscreen is that it sweats and rubs off. And even if it doesn't, afterwards.... you're coated with sticky sunscreen.

I have looked--for a long time--for anywhere that I could buy oversize long-sleeve shirts and pants made of lightweight white material, just for sun-protection wear.
I have not ever found anything even close to what I'm thinking of.
I may end up making a pair out of some kind of white synthetic myself just to see how they go.

pr0230, if you get these post a review. As someone who burns easily, I'd be interesed in how these work and how cool they are in hot weather. I was not aware that a product like this existed

I know nothing about them, but they claim 98% UV blocking. It took a 30-second Google search to find them.

That's why I was recommending the Coppertone Sport stuff. I'm English, Irish and German. I get sunburns at night. I wear the stuff for 5 hour mountain bike rides in the foothill sun outside of Sacramento and haven't had any issues with it running in to my face, coming off or being sticky. It was just a thought.

Also, if you're REALLY sensitive to sun, you can check out this stuff called OZONE. We have it at our local grocery store. It's SPF 70 - the joke we have is that it will actually remove any tan you have and prevent you from ever getting another one

Hi All, I been using the Defeet Sunskins for about 6-7 months and they are thinner then regular arm warmers. Check out this link http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=16693 they seem to be perfect for riding here in the SF bay area, paid about $20.00 for them.

Try the DeSoto Sports ones. They're a great company--good products and good customer service. I've got a pair of their arm coolers and have used them a couple times in the Phoenix heat. I was actually surprised at how well they worked.

DeSoto Arm Coolers (http://www.desotosports.com/products/product.asp?Category=Accessories&ProdID=AC5)

Check out their other products, too. Mostly tri clothing (which is quite nice, by the way), but their cycling bibshorts are supposed to be great, too.

There's lots of places that sell UV-blocking clothing, but the problem is that it's styled just like regular casual clothing, and that's not what I want.

People in Mid-Eastern and African desert climates tend to wear very baggy white clothing, if they're free to choose. Baggy so there's airflow under the clothing and white to reflect the sun/heat. So that's what I wanna try, but I don't want robes like what Arab clothing places sell. What I want is basically a 3 or 4x oversize sweatjacket and sweatpants, but made of thin white synthetic material instead of regular sweatpants-material.

Yea I know it'll look funny--but if it means not needing sunscreen and being otherwise comfortable, I'm willing to look funny.

We got ours from Terry but an internet search will find lots of brands making them. Work a lot better than sunblock and they are very comfortable and cool (look for ones that have mesh under the arms and on the sides.

What is the advantage of using coolmax arm coolers instead of a long sleeve coolmax jersey.

Try a cardboard mailing tube from the post office. I just cut it at the elbow and tape it loosely together so I can bend it. Put some spiffy decals on for the racer look.

Grant Petersen of Rivendell says the best summer riding garment is a long-sleeved seersucker shirt. And he wears them--I've seen him. You look like the King of the Dweebs riding home from science class, but what do we care of fashion?
Long-sleeved white T-shirts are widely available for less than $10 in places like Mervyn's and Target, and I ride in T-shirts most of the time anyway. Unless you're doing a lot of miles in hot weather, cotton isn't as uncomfortable as people seem to say. And there's a company that specializes in sun-protective clothing, can't remember the name, but I used to get their catalog...stuff's expensive (like $75 for what looks like an ordinary cotton shirt), but apparently works.
Just as a passing thought, it's good to protect yourself from the sun, and I regret a lot of the time I spent as a kid trying to get the darkest tan in the neighborhood, but it IS possible to be too paranoid about a thing like this.

I bought the desoto triathlon skin coolers... I am 6'1" and I bought the large... they are a bit long but I will stick with the large....
Several things to note:
They are very sheer, ( you can see through them very easily) will be great for passing the sweat thru, but if you buy a size too small and pull on the material, the sun will go right thru...
I see two uses for these.... These will keep u warm in the early morning, and dry and out of the sun in the afternoon... Two thumbs up for these.... Now I need the same for the legs... but in nicker size....

I have two kids and have seen UV protective shirts from these companies. I'm sure that there are more. All these are made of "compression" material. There was just an article in our local paper about the fact that regular shirts "do not" protect you from UV rays. The article was quoted recent studies stating that they have found people that have skin cancer on areas of the body that were covered/protected by shirts but fewer on areas protected by SPF lotions.
