Reynolds531 06-09-2007, 02:33 PM Here's the Panasonic story: http://www.yellowjersey.org/pana.html
You got a very high quality bike, one of the best bikes in the world from that era. This is probably the top of the line Panasonic. Nothing was better than Suntour Superbe Pro. Some groups cost more, but nothing was better. I'm envious. I'm a big fan of early 80's Japanese bikes. I bought a new 1980 Panasonic made Raleigh with Suntour Superbe and still regret the day I sold it. Unless it is custom built by Takao Ono it has no collector value, althoug it's probably a bettter bike than most of the Italian collector's items that sell for thousands. Ibought my son an old Panasonic DX200. It's a nice bike but it can'ty touch yours.

I would kill for that frame in 50-52cm....You have a very nice collectable bike
fbagatelleblack 06-09-2007, 07:22 PM What the other guys said. Sweet, sweet ride. Could be one of the quasi-custom bikes Panasonic made to order in the late 80s. That Suntour Superbe Pro stuff is da bomb, baybee. Ride the snot out of it and love every mile.

Dippy1584 06-10-2007, 05:52 AM Hey Thanks for all your input on my bike I have only riden it aroung the block but already love it. Right now it is at the local bike shop getting tires and a tune up since the tune up is unknown when I get it back in about a week I will post more pics Thanks again for all your help.
Richard 06-10-2007, 07:14 AM I disagree. That bike does have "collector value." The upper end Japanese bikes from the late '70's into the '80's - Miyata's, Bridgestone's, Univega's, and yes, Panasonic's, etc. - were generally better made than the price competitive models from Europe at the time (I'm thinking Peugeot and the like.) Many are downright stellar.

Yea, I'll revise my original statement. The Panasonic has relatively little monetary collector value compared to a top-of-the-line Colnago or DeRosa with Campy Super Nuovo Record in equivalent shape, even though the Pansonic was functionally a better bike. I would collect and cherish the Panosonic, but it probably would not draw as much money on the market as a Miyata Team Pro or a Bridgestone RB-1.
toomanybikes 06-10-2007, 09:20 AM Stunning find!
I will echo what has been said above. Suntour Superbe Pro is as good as it gets, as good as has ever been made, and better than most "snootier" brands.
That is a beautiful bike, cherish it. And whatever you do, don't pay attention when the LBS folks try to convince you it isn't worth fixing up because it's "old and out-dated"
They will try to sell you a bike that isn't a tenth as good for ten times the money.
You got a gem.
Richard 06-10-2007, 09:59 AM Yep. In some ways I'm still kicking myself. Back in the '80's, I had a chance to buy a couple of years old Univega "Competition". White with full Suntour Superbe Pro, Tange Champion #1 tubeset. But no - I had to have the Battaglin "Carrera Team". Stephen Roche and all that. Nice bike, but it never really fit me that well. Typical Italian geometry. 55.5cm top tube on a 58cm c-to-t frame. I had to run a 130mm stem to get a decent fit. Eventually sold it. Oh well.

wonderfull bike.. try levelling the saddle and lowering slightly your stem/bar. i am sure the bike will feel more comfortable.
Lawrencer2003 06-19-2007, 05:24 PM Go to the theYellowjersey.com for an appreciation of Panasonic. This was a labor of love for the founder, an avid cyclist, and no short cuts were taken. You have a lovely bike there.
