I'm trying to figure out the most cost-effective option to upgrade to 10-speed with my existing 9-speed full Dura Ace drivetrain. Will changing out just the shifters, chain and cassette be OK? I know that the old 8-speed deraillerus handled 9-speed cassettes, and vice versa.

Thanks in advance.

No problem, unless you want to use a spoke protector :D. Follow the blue line in this

yes, all that you need are shift levers, cassette(use ultegra) and a chain.

But not D-A 8-speed which had a proprietary cable pull/throw ratio that is not compatible with other groups.
