Hello-
I am a first time poster, occasional lurker, and needs some feedback. I am looking at picking up either a Roubaix Comp or a BMC Road Racer and was looking for some advice. These two bikes are the ones that fit the best, and are within my budget. Aside from the obvious differences, which one would you go with and why? I have ridden both bikes. The Roubaix in my size and a size smaller BMC. I would need to order in the BMC in my size. For what it is worth, I would rather spend my money at the shop that sells the BMC. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd go with the BMC, because my current frame is almost identical to a specialized frame. Its a great bike, but the BMC is suhWEEET and exotic.I also liked the tad bit extra length of the toptube, so I can use a slightly shorter stem.
The coolest bike I've ever ridden (only in a parking lot) was full carbon bmc with record, zip4's and cinelli rams. There was little that wasn't carbon, and it weight sub15lbs.
Just don't get that Ugly green/yellow color.
Yeah, its not even close. Go BMC. You only live once.

if they both fit well, get the one that looks better. youll ride it more. for me, that would be the bmc. another bonus point for the bmc is that its pretty rare. youll see a dozen specialized every day, wont see too many other bmc's out there. factor in that the bmc comes from the better shop, and i think its a no brainer.

Meaning..........
I assume you would reccomend one for 25 mile rides and one for 125 mile rides? Do you have experience with one model? Any insight would still be very much appreciated:)
Thanks

sorry i wasnt clear. I have heard that anyone who wants to do a long ride or be on the bike for 5+ hours should go for the ROubaix. But it is not for an exciting ride! im thinking of getting one anyway - i get back probs and im sick of them.
I know nothing about the BMC geometry except that they usually look great. I suppose i should keep my mouth shut until i know what im talikg about!

Back problems are no fun, I have had more than my share. Hopefully the Roubaix will work out for you.
Thanks for your reply.

Don't you worry. I swapped my bike with a buddy of mine for one of our rides, he has BMC RoadRacer. I thought it was a stellar ride. I couldn't believe aluminum can be that comfortable. Handling was second to none. I think you made a good choice.

Just came across this thread...

I too am strongly considering the Road Racer. I have been riding an Ultegra/105 mix Fetish that's aluminum with carbon seat stays for the past 3 years. My fitness and skill have progressed quite a bit, and I'm looking for a bike that I can do everything on.

My thoughts were to go with the BMC for its build/construction quality. I intend to set this up mostly for weekly training rides/races, then swap out wheels to ride the bike in half IM's. On top of that, I'll ride it in "training" mode in a couple of 100 mile tours each year.

I'm psyched to get mine ordered. I think I'll stop by the shop tonight.

Plans are to build it with full DA, and Zipp 303's. I have a good training wheelset that I'll swap in and out.

My 2 cents...BMC all the way. Their frames are an engineering masterpiece.

i like specialized because their products really work well but i was raised to take the road less traveled and i feel it is my duty to encourage you to not be a statistic. try them both again on the same day and if you really like the Specialized better...by all means go for it. but i like BMC for the same reason i like IBEX, Kona, & Salsa...if you see someone with the same bike you are practically brothers.

thanks and good luck
