I picked up a couple of bikes today a Raliegh Record for 1$ and a Norco Magnum GT 5$. Are these worth fixing up, and how can you tell what size they are. Any input on these bikes would be great Thanks. I hope these pictures work out, I'm new to this stuff.

Middle and low end bike boom era bikes. "Worth" fixing is completely up to you but the relative resale value will be quite low IMO.

IMO life is too short to bother with tired old High Tensile steelbikes. The Norco on the other hand is quite a nice bike. What kind of tubing ? The drilled triple chainrings are pretty weird in a very nice way, is it a Sugino Maxy crankset ? I hope the seatpost isn't stuck for your sake, that would be some job to get it out. Clean it up and take some better pictures. Try to find some dating codes on the back of the crankarms. The Vintagetrek website has info on what the codes mean. Should end up being a really nice ride with a lot of TLC and probably a couple of hundred dollars for new cables, tires, pads etc.

A day later some tires, pads, peddals, and a spare seat seems to ride good.Maybe the raleigh would make a good SS ? 27 inch wheels on the raleigh don't know much about the tire sizes.91330

Are the brake levers on the Norco drilled out? Looks like.

Not sure if you can even buy 27" tires anymore. YOu may have enough brake reach to put 700c's on but you'd have to measure before hand. You need the brake pads roughly 1/4" lower than they are now on 27".

You can definately still buy 27" tires. Nashbar and Performance have them for sure and maybe some LBS'...you can always find cheap ones at department stores also. The Raleigh would make a good SS/fixie IMO for one due to the lack of downtube shifter braze-ons.

Agree, I have a Raleigh Record fixie very much like that one and it's a blast to ride and absolutely bombproof

Nice bicycle. I would route both brake cables over the handlebars. They'll be less saggy and droopy over time. Also, the downtube shifters look to me like they should be located higher up on the downtube.

Good call on the shifters there is some scratches were it has slid down so i'll move them up and when I get some cables I route them as you said thanks alot.
