Ordered a set of wheels (Campagnolo Record 10/ Mavic Open Pro Silver WheelSet - Item #CB 0000867) last weekend during their big sale. On Monday they email me and tell me that the order has been cancelled. I call them and they tell me that the item has been discontinued and is no longer in stock....and that the website is not up to date.

As of today, this item is still on their site and "in stock". Makes me wonder if the sale just didn't apply to this wheelset, but they didn't want to say that.

They occasionally do this kind of stuff. I recently recieved a catalog from them with a 3-for-the-price-of-2 sale on Prolink. Couldn't find it anywhere on their website. Contacted them, and was informed the 3-pack was no longer available. Just sell me 3 singles for the price of 2? They couldn't do that. I had just recieved the catalog in the mail.

For me, though this is a rare occasion, and I've been pretty happy with their service.

I must have received the same catalog about a month or so ago. Did the same web search and ended up having the same conversation with a sales associate on the phone. Actually, about a year ago, I went to a Performance store because of the same 3 pack Prolink deal and some other good offers. They didn't have the 3 pack then either. I did manage to get them to honor the wording in the add and got 3 bottles for the price of 2. I have to wonder if they ever have that 3 pack in stock?

It sounds to me like you had a legal sale-since it went through and I'm assuming was charged to your credit card, why not ask them to substitute something as close as possible--and how does that item get discontinued? Mavic open pro and campy record hubs-that's been around in one form or another at least since I started riding in the mid-80s.

Write the BBB....doubt you will get your wheels but a valid complaint is a valid complaint.

If they already refunded your money (or didn't even take your money in the first place), you don't have much of a complaint. At best, the BBB will help you get a refund, but in your case there is nothing to refund.

Call them back and pretend you want to place a order for them at regular price. Then if they say they have them in stock tell them what happened

Ordered the same item last weekend. Sale price was $299 with 25% points back. Checked my credit card online that night, and there was a pending charge of $680!

Called the 800# right away and they said there was some sort of system error that charged the wrong price and they would credit the difference back. Got a confirm # from them for the confirm. Credits typically take a few days to show online, so I'm waiting for the correct price to hit my card. If I don't see it within the next day or so, I'll just contact Visa to dispute it.

Got a letter in the mail from them today apologizing, so I fully expect they'll make good on the credit. Despite the mess up, their customer service via email or the 800# has historically been very good.

But I did get the wheels as expected. They seem to be nicely built with the proper tension and I was surprised to see they included a 12-13t lockring.

I ordered a set of those wheels a few years ago and had the same issue. They were discontinued, even though the web site said they were in stock. Eventually I got them. The rear had to be rebuilt because the spokes kept coming loose. But since then, they've been great. I have over 5000 miles on them, no problems.
