View Full Version : I just read that some cyclists may have tested posittive in surprise doping tests.
Einstruzende 06-21-2007, 02:04 PM I read it at ESPN of all places. No mention as of yet at Cyclingnews or Velonews.

Basically it says that the UCI surprised some "suspicious" riders that they thought would do well in the TdF, and that some were positive. No names will be released until B samples have been tested.
Anyone heard anymore about this? Want to speculate?
I'll speculate and say Vinokourov is in that bunch.

Yes, see the Men in Black thread. Kasheckhin was acting odd at the Dauphine at times, maybe it was because he knew he had an axe hanging over his head?
Edit: Continuing the rumour mill, a German cycling website (radsport) is now reporting 3 of the riders are Astana men including Vino and Kloden.
FondriestFan 06-21-2007, 02:52 PM Is Eddy "domestique to star overnight" Mazzoleni one of them?

This would be the least surprising dope bust ever.
Former T-Mobile riders, eastern european, seriously on and off racing form...etc.
karategirl 06-21-2007, 03:39 PM "We received information they were training in strange locations and in strange outfits"." Pardon me, but so what? Why does what they were wearing somehow mean they were doping?
Mdeth1313 06-21-2007, 03:52 PM Is anyone actually going to watch the TdF this year? I know I havent watched one stinking pro race this year. BTW, its got as much to do w/ the UCI, ASO and WADA's lack of ability to handle the situation as it does w/ the actual dopers.

Eastern European? Yeah, 'cuz those Western European and American riders would NEVER dope.
SilasCL 06-21-2007, 05:15 PM Only saying it fits the stereotype. Thanks for your 2 cents though

Yes. I'll watch every damn stage.
Einstruzende 06-21-2007, 06:24 PM I'll follow it (via live update from Cyclingnews).
I have to admit that I still enjoy watching races. The classics were great this year. No surprise that more folks are getting caught doping. Especially the ones we're speculating about, and for all the reasons mentioned.
terzo rene 06-21-2007, 08:32 PM I have watched every tour since 1983 and I'm not so sure about this year. The problem is I can no longer stomach the VS coverage and to avoid that I would have to pay for the French channel again. But since whomever wins is likely to be declared the non-winner later it makes it very hard to invest either emotionally or financially in the race.
The Giro I can still justify because the courses, scenery and commentators are better so I don't need to care who wins to get into it.
coinstar2k 06-22-2007, 12:23 PM I will watch every day, and I will assume that every rider that I am watching is doping somehow.
I will of course watch the live feed in the mornings with the sound turned completely off. Versus is the worst.
If I have to live through one more "Saab built by people that buid jets" commercial I might just go crazy. Or how about the World Team Tennis League ads: "John McEnroe and the New York Sporttimes take on the Pete Sampras and the Newport Beach Breakers, in the hottest WTT action this year."
Please....someone at versus, can you please hire someone to sell new ad space. You have been running the same ads since last Tour!

Yep, me too. Like ASO says, its about the race, not the riders.
