View Full Version : Does and Atmos cool your head more then say an Eclipse?
slamy 07-11-2004, 06:30 PM Anyone gone from an eclipse to a Pneumo or Atmos? I troll around here in the deep south. i have a giro eclipse (for last four years). In this blistering heat and humidity i am looking to stay as cool as possible. So is there a noticable difference between these helmets. Or what is the coolest helmet to get; and when I say coolest I dont mean bling bling, I mean temp.
alienator 07-11-2004, 10:34 PM I'm using a Pneumo, in Tucson. I guess it does a good job of keeping my head cool. It is nice and light. That said, no helmet is going to be like a refrigerator on yer head.

Vegancx 07-12-2004, 04:08 AM I went from an Eclipse to a Bell Ghisallo. Big difference. The Ghisallo is much lighter and much cooler, and it looks a lot better. I doubted spending the big bucks for a chi chi helmet (and I didn't CC had them for $60) but it's totally worth it both temperature and comfort wise.

I made the same switch. The Bell Ghisallo is much more comfortable with larger vents. I paid $90.00 and well worth it but 60 bucks is a great price.
Coolhand 07-12-2004, 09:55 AM My training helmet is a Pneumo.
My racing helmet is a Atmos.
The Atmos is cooler and lighter then the Pneumo, which was better then every other helmet I have owned or tried.
It's pricey though.
:(
PdxMark 07-12-2004, 10:02 AM My warm-season helmet is a Ghisallo and my cold-season helmet is an old Bell Nemesis (MTB helmet). The Ghisallo is too airy for 30-40 degree wet weather and is much cooler than the Nemesis on hot days.
Still using my ONCE Giro Boreas. Still pretty breezy and light, but some newer lids might be a bit cooler I dunno.(?) Just ordered another set of replacement pads. Guess I hate to spend another $150. on a new helmet, but I haven't found another one that fits as well and looks so damned good. Been wanting to try the Shain Corsa BK-100 because of the bug mesh on the holes.

What is CC? I need a new helmet and $60 is closer to my price range.

xcmntgeek 07-14-2004, 06:23 AM Bell, Giro, Lazer, Specialized..... They're all comparable so buy what fits your head. Nothing is worse than a helmet that doesn't fit (except maybe a bad saddle- that sucks). I had a Pnemo but once I tried on a Ghisallo I found the Bell to be much more comfy- personal prefrence. Even in the 110 degree heat index days that we've been having here I can't notice a diff.
The Atmos is the way to go. Better ventilation than the Pneumo!
Tail Wind 07-14-2004, 09:53 AM I'd say go with the Specialized S1 or what for the new Decibel helmet.

The Bell Alchera is almost the same helmet as the Ghisallo but it doesn't have the plastic shell on the lower rear area. I know because I own both. It's the best value in helmets right now in my opinion - $44.95 at Nashbar. About 90% of the performance of the more expensive Giro's for way less money.

The Bell Alchera is exactly the same as the Bell Influx with a different sticker. It is a little heavier than the Ghisallo. At one time, Nashbar was selling the influx for $40 and the Alchera for $45. I don't know why.
