Bicycling: You know, you spent most of your career on a French team before moving to CSC...you're in a unique position to comment on the problems facing cycling and cyclists in France. So what do you think? Is it as bad as everyone says?

Voigt: No, as they say, I'm infected by the Tour virus. It's like Christmas. Each day you're always excited like a kid, you go "Ho, ho," it's the Tour!

Jens and James Part I

Catching Up With Mr. Nice Guy and German Cycling Legend Jens Voigt

By James Startt, European Associate to Bicycling

There are few riders more popular than Germany's Jens Voigt. Renowned for his aggressive style of racing, few riders spend more time in breakaways than the 35-year old German. Always a pleasure to talk to on and off the bike, Voigt recalls growing up on the other side of the Wall, discusses his move back to Germany, and speculates on what lies ahead. Part one of two.

Berlin, Germany, June 1, 2007:

Bicycling: You know that the last time I visited you, you still lived in Toulouse. When did you decide to move back to Germany? And what made you move back? Certainly not the weather...

Jens Voigt: I moved back after I signed with Bjarne Riis (CSC manager). It (Toulouse) was a great time of my life, but as the kids got older and went to school it just made more sense. My wife couldn't move around so much. She couldn't just take the kids out of school and come visit me. For a long time I would spend like a week or two in Toulouse and a week or two in Germany, and then finally it just made more sense to move back here.
