I will be in Austin, TX (zip cd 78750) from 07/22 to 07/31. Can anyone on the board pls. suggest a 50 to 80 mi. loop or ride in the area? Or a site for cue sheets?

Check out www.austincycling.org - they have rides scheduled each Saturday and Sunday. They also have maps online, but you have to be a member of the club to access them. I think it's $15 to join.

Other area rides:

Austin Tri-Cyclist Ride - Saturdays @ 8:30 (some folks ride Sunday as well) starting from the shop on Barton Springs Road. Does the 'Dam' loop, which is about 55 miles or so from the shop with a decent amount of climbing (for TX) on roads with nice shoulders. Usually quite well attended and paces range from very fast to moderate.

Sweetish Hills Bakery Ride - Saturday & Sunday starting around 9:00 from the Bakery on 6th Street. Seems to be the open group ride of choice for most of the racers. Distance and pace and route vary depending on the mood of the group, though Sundays are usually more mellow than Saturdays. Can be super fast and they don't think twice about dropping you - so make sure you know how to get back on your own.

Tuesday Nighter - Psuedo race starting down in South Austin. A and B groups. Multiple laps on an ~8 mile loop. Loop is currently having some road work performed, so attendance has been off.

Tuesday Dam Loop - Starts @ 6:00 from 360 Cycleworks. Does a shorter version of the loop done by the ATC ride on Saturday. Fast pace up front, but a friendly bunch that stops to regroup once or twice along the route.

Also check out www.txbra.org for more info.

Hope you enjoy Austin.

There's a loosely orginized group called Team Roadkill that meets almost every Sunday at Bowie High School, on Slaughter Ln. east of Mopac (park by the tennis courts) at 7:00 am if you want to do about 50 to 60 miles.
