hi all...i'm (desparately) seeking a CX frame that is SS compatible, but also capable of taking gears.

i'm of course aware of the surly crosscheck, bianchi has one....any others? would like to keep the price down, but not a big deal to get what i want

thanks!!

Van Dessel Country Road Bob. I've had mine for about a year. Fine bike.

does the bianchi ss frame have a derailer hanger? I thought it had track ends.

Nope, at least not on the San Jose anyway. I assume the Roger has track ends also. IIRC the Volpe still has horizontal dropouts though.

Last years Voodoo Limba was a great match for what you're after. Sliding dropouts and disk tabs on a nice light scandium frame. I think there's still a few frames floating around Ebay for around $500.

Also worth mentioning that it might be possible to run gears on a set of track dropouts with Shimano's Saint gear...beefy stuff - freeride MTB oriented hardware - but if that's what you're after it might work.

Or any geared frame with a tensioner. I've run ENO'd ecc. equipped bikes the last two seasons and only had an issue once, but I have been lucky enough not to flat the rear wheel at a critical point. Its kind of a commitment to keep and extra ENO ecc. rear wheel around and fiddling with the getting an ENO ecc.'s tension right with frozen fingers while you are under the gun sounds like a lousy time.

I got my hands on a Soulcraft Convert tensioner and converted an ENO ecc. MTB wheel to ENO non-ecc. for XC racing and I think that is the better set-up. A flick of the switch on the Convert allows it to swing out of the way for easy wheel changes, and you can use any old wheel with a single cog and spacers as a back-up.
