I'm trying to decide on a Surly frame (Pacer, CC,LHT) for my "does it all" bike.

I really like the versatility of the Long Haul Trucker but I don't want feel like I'm riding a beach cruiser with drop-bars.

How would you rate the 'sportiness' of your Long Haul Trucker?

Well built and versitle. Anything can be made into a beach cruiser as well as be made in to a sleek steed.

long chainstays will tend to do that... if you've never ridden a full-on tourer, you might want to try before you buy, not the most nimble handling bikes. CC is a great all-arounder if your touring is limited

I love my LHT also. A beach cruiser it is not.

I am currently running 700x35 tires and initially I felt like these things were huge. These were the largest tires I had ever seen on a 700c wheel. They do not accelerate as fast as some super skinny 700x23 but once I get them up to speed I feel that I use a lot less energy to keep them there.

I swapped them out for some 28mm to see if I would like those tires better, but I hated the skinnier tires. I can go anywhere with the 35mm and they cushion a lot better.

Univeral Cycle is having a 15% off sale on anything over 300ish...they have CC for 900 ish.

If you're worried about this just get the Cross Check. The Cross Check can do it all.

x2 Cross bikes like that define "do it all"

Thanks for the responses everyone. I stumbled across something I hadn't considered and felt compelled.

What do we think?

It's geometry is a little CC, LHT and Pacer. A randoneering frame I think it's called.

That Canti-Romulus would be pretty sweet. I would get one of those if the size is correct.

Here is what she will look like built up:

Well... The stock gearing on a CC isn't really made for touring... Other than that, I agree!

You gotta decide what you want to spend.

Oh... that sucks...there's also two on daBay. A 50 and 54, starting bids are set at 600, but the auctioner hasn't got a clue on how to price S/H. I'm in the same state and they wanted $100.

I bought a CC through Jenson, finally got the insurance check for the build I finished two months ago and it got stolen three weeks ago...gota love that. Jenson is running around $900 shipped. They also had 56ers in the outlet listings for 730.
