Hello everyone -- My car recently broke down and I've taken the opportunity to save money by riding the bus and bicycling to work. My bicycling background: raced BMX competitively as a kid and cycled in high school on a second-hand 30 lbs Schwinn.
My current plans are:
1.) Ride anywhere from 5-20 miles daily.
2.) Work up to weekend rides to the coast and back 25-40 miles.
3.) Charity rides
4.) Century rides would be a great milestone to work toward.
I've ridden several bikes: Giant Defy 2, Specialized Secteur (Sora/Tiagra) and Trek 1.2/1.5. The Specialized and the Treks rode the nicest for me. Then I came across a 2006 Trek Pilot 2.1 with 105/Ultegra components/low miles for less than the price of the Secteur.
Is the Trek a good entry level bike? Does the Trek compare to the Secteur? Is it a fast enough bike for someone like me to grow into?
Thanks in advance for any help. These forums have been a Godsend for this newbie.
