I am new to both this site and cycling. I would greatly appreciate any input about my dilemma.
As my first road bike, I had decided on and put down a deposit for a 2011 Focus Cayo 4.0 which comes with Shimano 105 comp and weighs in at ~ 19 lbs. My intention is to ride it a couple of times weekly (50-70 miles) as work allows me to do though, as I am in my last year of my medical training, I suspect I will probably have less time to ride than I anticipate. So, after test-riding a few bikes, I decided on the Cayo. Carbon frame, decent comp, stiff and relatively comfortable, I thought. But I only rode it around the block, not on a long ride. I questioned if it would be as comfortable on long rides. Also, I am not sure the quality of carbon frame I am getting. Reg price for $2500. I got it for $1500.
But soon after, my medical school classmate (in another state) told me that he was going to sell his 2009(2010?) Cervelo S1 (56 cm) but I could buy it from him should I choose to do so. I could prob get it for ~ $ 1200-1400.
An argument for the Cervelo is that I love the color scheme and the sturdy appearance of the frame. But I do not know how comfortable it would be though I have read that it is a stiff and racey bike. So, I thought if I get the Cervelo and like it, I would keep it. If not, I would spend more and get a higher end bike next season and sell the Cervelo. Seeing as the summer is almost over, I would hate to spend more only to use it for a few weeks this season and then have it sit idling for several months.
Please, help me compare the general comfort between these two bikes and whether my reasoning to consider getting the Cervelo S1 is sound. Is the carbon frame on the Cayo of good quality or am I just getting a "carbon" in name only? I would appreciate any insight greatly. Thanks.
