The Insight is a nice hybrid and the Alivio drivetrain is very good. From what I can tell it seems to retail for around $600- $700. Right? If it does, another bike you might want to check out is the Cannondale Quick 4. It has a feature Cannondale calls S.A.V.E. technology on the chain stays that makes for an excellent ride. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Scott

Diamondback Insight 3
This is a really great bike and the specs are no different. I've owned it for several months now and it is very lightweight and FAST. The Kenda tires are okay, but definitely better on this Insight, as opposed to the Insight 1 due to the puncture resistant tires. I haven't had any problems whatsoever with this bike so far and I got it for about half its msrp, which pretty much tops it for me. Even for the $600 price, it is well worth it. Although it is considered more so a retail brand, the price is right for the specs that you'd see at a bike shop for a similar bike, which would cost at least double the amount. Overall, it is a good buy and I highly recommend it since I haven't had any issues. Plus its really motivated me to go out and ride more often. I ride for the speed, as well as long mileage and fitness. Keep in mind that if a certain spec doesn't interest you, you can always replace it

Everything is good enough to get going with. I won't consider any of that to be notably amazing, yet there's nothing bad really. Maybe the wheels would be a concern if you're particularly heavy. I noticed the bike has disc brake tabs, which is rather interesting although a questionable investment down the road.
The only remote negativity I'd throw in is that it's arguably no better than the Insight 2. Just has a fancier bit of everything with no actual benefit and wheels with a lower spoke count than the Insight 2.
