I cobbled this together last fall and have only just now gotten around to taking pictures of it. Almost everything on it was free. The frame was a Fuji something-or-touring-other that the dropout had fallen out of, and the customer returned it to the shop I was working at. After it hung on the rack for a few years or so, management gave it to me. After spending way, way too long trying to get out the other dropout, I brazed in some Campy 1010Bs that I had laying around - yeah, huge waste, I know - rattle-canned the whole deal, threw on some glitter for good measure, set it in the sun-and-wind to dry, and...ta-da! Rust-proof. Altogether it rides fairly awfully: there's next to no tire clearance (despite the fact that I lengthened the stays with the new dropouts), and fenders are almost out of the question. I haven't installed racks, but I can't imagine the angle between the seatstay and dropout mounts will be very friendly. The BB is way, way too low, at least with those pedals, for any real fixed use offroad; it jams your foot into EVERYTHING. The handling is...well, not the way I would have designed a touring bike. And finally, the BB-ST-DT junction sways all over the place when you put any power into the pedals.
The wheels I had laying around from a SS-CX bike that got eaten by a car; a quick truing and they were good as new. The bars were a parting gift of sorts from a shop I worked at a few years ago; they're just custom-bent Ti tubestock, and I'm sure they're worth more than the rest of the bike (minus the wheels, maybe). Seatpost and stem (fun, but temporary) I had laying around. DA BB, 600 cranks, Avid and Tektro brakes, awesome orange-and-silver Fuji Arione-lookalike, and sealed-bearing DA headset (7400?) were customer throw-aways, warranty returns... Who knows. They were all free. The few reflectors on there are just the beginning; there are more to come.
...and I guess this is a serendipitous celebration of my 500th post. May I never, ever see the 24,000 mark that some of you cats have achieved.
