26" or 700 in Latin America, SE Asia, and Asia?

I've been hearing that 700's are not very available outside the developed world (US Canada and most or Europe). Is that what people's experience has been?

I'm planning on getting a touring bike for those sorts of places -- any help appreciated!

Most experienced world tourers carry 1 or 2 spare tires.

Tubes aren't really that much of a problem as long as you are willing to patch. FWIW few small towns are going to have much besides really low end 26ers available but any larger town or city will have both.

How about 650A ("28 inch" aka 26x1-3/8)? Anywhere you can find an English 3-speed, you can find these.

Not the world's greatest tires...but they can be found anywhere in the world.
This wheel's on fire/rollin' down the road
