So I finally got the commuter bike setup how I want it. This last weekend, I put the mustache bars on and added some bar end shifters (which I love). I've been running errands on this bike for a while but it was never really comfortable till I switched the bars. Today, I decided to commute to work on it. The route isn't too bad. Its about 12 miles each way. The first half of my commute is through several neighborhoods then I'm in downtown Macon, GA. The second half consists of a nice stroll through the Ocmulgee National Monument on their quite bike path. When I got to the gate at the park, it was shut and locked. The lock is actually an electric magnet that when locked, you can only unlock it from the inside by pushing a button. So I had to jump the fence this morning and push the button so I could get in. Once I was in, its a nice stroll for about 2 miles through small fields and woods that were once inhabited by a large group of Native Americans (some cool history). Once I get through the other gate, I've got a about 4 miles to go before getting to work. This stretch is the most dangerous as its on a highway where cars fly by with no caution. So the morning commute went well and this evening, I just did everything in reverse except I took the time to hit a few side trips to make the route home a little longer. It was such a beautiful day and I'm glad to have rode the bike to work. I plan on making this a regular gig.
Here's some pictures of the ride home this evening:
