I crossed over to The Darkside !

Out and about exploring some new trails on the other side of the train tracks. The best part was it was the first time in 4 years that I saw another rider out on the trails. We stopped and talked for a bit and will hopefully get together and ride. What a great day exploring, who knew The Darkside would be so fun.

All you needed nearby was a "rushing" (not calm) river with a gorge, and I duly swear I would have heard a banjo playing on the other side & would have been grabbing the edge of my office chair.

Where is that, zipp? I know 202 well but I'm drawing a blank trying to think of where railroad tracks cross it.

Route 202 goes over the tracks shortly after the main entrance to Otter River campground before you get to Baldwinville center.

okay thanks. I was picturing tracks on the road but now I'm pretty sure I know the bridge you're talking about.

I was just there yesterday. Nice ride over the Brattleboro through NH, then back through Mass, and took 202 from outside Athol all the way to Toy Town before heading back to Fitzwilliam. That's a good fast stretch of 202 in that direction. It's looks flat but either the wind is always blowing North or it slopes down South the North.

yes, I like that a climb a lot so generally hit it pretty hard. But between the heat and being deep into the ride yesterday it was a real slow crawl.

I don't use a bike computer anymore but guessing the ride totaled around 115 miles. I did quite a bit of North/South zigzagging on the way there but more direct getting back.
Took a nice long lunch break in Northfield MA.
Overall it was a great ride on mostly really nice roads.

Dang that a long day in the saddle. I only use my cycle computer for my mileage, and could care less about the avg. speed and other data.
