Los Angeles Event: Volvo City of Angels Funride 04/24/05

The Volvo City of Angels 38 mile bike ride is coming up on April 24th, part of the whole Bike Show weekend. Portions of proceed will go to Children's Hospital here in LA. The course will take riders through downtown, something that the Acura ride didn't do.

    Hey Meat

You doing this? It looks a lot better than the Marathon ride, mainly because it's longer and more interesting (I don't get to Boyle Heights that often). Looks like the only drawback is the streets are not entirely reserved for cyclists.

    Is it my imagination...

...or are there really a lot fewer "fun rides" around here than there used to be? I check the various publications you see at bike shops or REI, but there's not much taking place in the L.A. county area. During the first few years of the Marathon bike tour, there'd be nearly a dozen rides being promoted at the QoL Expo, and I used to do at least a couple each year. (Especially liked the one that benefitted LAPD, since they'd supply a big contingent of motorcycle cops to clear the way for us...)

Thanks for the heads-up, Meat--I'd forgotten about this particular ride (the one good thing about the bike show )

Yeah, I am planning on doing it.

But the nature of my work makes it hard to say for sure if I will. Shoot schedules and projects change or come up at the last minute.

I want to do it fixed. But I'll probably put on a 20t cog on the other side of the flip/flop rear. I have a 16t on there right now. The site says there is a 1600ft elevation gain.

I haven't looked closely at the route, but if it goes anywhere near Bunker Hill ....
