11-spd chain tool - What am I missing?

I have a pretty standard chain tool. I think it is labeled "Trek," but I'm sure it was made by some factory and then just licensed with the Trek name.

It looks similar to this: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....PL._SX300_.jpg

Anyway, I've used it with 9, 10, and 11-spd chains without a problem. I notice that some chain tools specify "8, 9, 10 spd" or some other combination.

My tool was made before 11-spd existed. Am I somehow damaging the chain by using it? Do I need to get an 11-spd chain tool?

According to Shimano you need an 11 speed chain tool to change 11 speed chains.
According to everyone and their brother who has changed 11 speed chains with an older tool and had no problems you don't.

Depends on if you're using Shimano or Campag and are using a masterlink or rivet. Pre-11 speed chain tools don't have peening anvils like you need for driving/peening rivets on 11s Campagnolo chains. IIRC Shimano 11s chains never needed peening on new rivets...
