    Are branded bearings cheaper overseas?

I've been shopping on line for cartridge bearings for my rear hub. I'm looking at brands with good reputation rather than no-names, and I've been surprised how much more is available at lower prices from overseas web sites compared to US. I don't just mean China, but Great Britain and continental Europe as well.

It reminds me of the way so many bike parts are cheaper overseas, except these are standard industrial bearings, so you wouldn't think the the same market forces would be in play.

I don't pretend to have done a thorough survey, but here are a couple of examples:

SKF 61902: SKF is one of the most trusted brands in this market. The 61902 is a size that gets used in a lot of hubs and some bottom brackets. Price of one each:
US site: Motion Industries: $64.70 plus $10 shipping,
English: Quality Bearings Online: $8.18 plus $13 shipping.

The single exception I found was EZO 6902ru. This brand is favored by Flo Wheels.

US Site: porkchopbmx: $9.99 for a pair, plus $3 shipping
English: 123bearing: one for $7.65 plus $32.67 shipping

For most brands in most sizes, I found something similar to the SKF 61902. How does the same part have such different prices?

VXB.com has the 61902 starting at $6.49. They're out of Anaheim, CA.

    VXB search 61902

I've bought bearings for the cars and while Motion Industries has quiet a bit, their prices are 20-40% more than some of the smaller supply shops.

Also have to watch for counterfeits so buy from reputable dealers.

This is where I go for bearings, hoses and belts:
