I am looking for anyone who is using the new Carnac M5 Carbon shoes, specifically how they fit compared to the older Quartz and Ellipse models?
Long story: I am having some serious foot problems in my current shoes (Sidi G5 Carbon and Sidi Ergo 1). I have been a long time Sidi user but over the past year I have had some problems with sore feet and Morton's Neuroma-like symptoms. I have decided I need a wider shoe in the forefoot, but the Sidi Mega shoes are too wide all over for me.
My choices at this point are coming down to either the Shimano R215 or the Carnac M5. I can get the Shimano locally no problem and the price is good as is the fit, but I have aesthetic issues using the S shoes with Campy components and Time pedals!! If I go Carnac it will have to be mail order. I used a pair of Quartz during the 2002 season, they fit well and were probably the most comfortable shoe I have ever used. However, they were definitely the heaviest shoe I have ever used by quite a margin. The new Carnac M5 has really shed some weight and if the fit is the same then I might take the plunge. I will be using Time RXS pedals.
