Deda Newton 31.7 Handlebar / Thomson Stem

I'm a beginner cyclist and was wondering if a Thomson 31.8 stem is compatible with a Deda Newton 31.7 handlebar? This is probably a stupid question, however, we beginners need to start somewhere. Thanks for the assistance in advance.

It's a good question. Better than trying brute force when you don't know what'll happen. =) Zinn has a good writeup on this:

The actual size is 1-1/4". When converted to metric units this works out to 31.75 mm. Some companies round this number down to 31.7 and others round up to 31.8 (which is technically correct since 5 rounds up).

    No worry.

Yes, it works fine. I'm actually using the Thomson X4 MTB 31.8 stem with Newton 31.7 bars. Never slipped and the faceplate is a four bolt setup rather than the two bolt setup on the road version X2 stem.
Pretty much here just to piss you off...
