Emergency fix - DA7900 chain on DA-9000 drive train

Hi guys - I had to open up my DA-9000 chain again (don't ask!) and had used my last chain specific chain pin. I have some on order, but they won't be here until Friday. To save my planned ride tomorrow I installed a slightly used DA-7900 chain on the bike. Seems to shift OK (not quite as smoothly as with the 9000 chain), but quite usable. Plan to use it for just one ride tomorrow. Anybody see any glaring problems I'm missing?

    Thanks,

You'll probably experience some ghost shifting and chain noise as the outer plates grab the cogs near to them.

I forget where I read it but remember for sure it was a reliable source and they said 7900 chain would be okay, but not ideal, to use with a 9000 group.

Still though, I'd probably drive to the bike shop and buy a pin.

So here is my post-ride report on this temporary fix. Bottom lion is that it works quite well. Shifting is totally reliable - no ghosting at all. The only small downside is that there is a tiny bit more chain rub (FD) at the x-chain extremes. As long as you keep things in middle gears there is no problem at all. I guess it makes sense since the 7900 chain is a fraction of a mm wider, but all in all I'm happy I did this - saved a three hour ride.

New chain is coming tomorrow (along with a bunch of extra 11sp chain pins). I scoured every bike ship in town, but nobody had any 11sp pins.

Hmmm…I was just on their web site and they claim compatibility only with Campagnolo 11 speed systems. Am I missing something?

    Thanks
