    fix broken chain link?

hi, my chain just broke from shifting under pressure; one of the links is bent out of shape. would the removal of the link with a chain tool affect the drivetrain?

Depending on how your chain was originally sized, it may make it too short. The problem with that is if you accidentally (or on purpose) shift into big-big, you could bend the rear derailleur or pull it into the spokes.
You also need to be sure to put it together properly if it needs a master link or a special repair pin (as for Shimano chains for 9,10 or 11 speeds (I'm not sure about 8)).

Just replace the chain. If you do remove a link and it is to short when you accidentally shift to the big-big combination, you could break the rear derailleur.
