Mavic Cosmic SLR Rear Hub Damage
My Cosmic SLR free hub stopped working properly. Took it to LBS and they opened it up to find damage. See pictures. One of the pawls appears to have failed and damaged the pawl portal area and hub. LBS said to take to a Mavic certified dealer (they are not one). Questions:
Has anyone seen this type of problem?
Any suggestions on how it can be fixed/replaced?
On the first question, I think that the pawl and tiny spring were not properly seated when the hub was last maintained ( or assembled at the factory). It's easy to not have the spring seated in the hole and/or the pawl not square in its spot (or even worse loose because it was upside down.....
Just another reason why mavic hubs suck....Tiny little parts, delicate assembly.....
I believe the damaged part is integral with the hub shell. You need to unlace the spokes and change out the hub shell.

Yup, that's part of the hub. Will need to unlace and replace hub. You may be able to loosen the spokes and pop the hub out with totally removing the spokes.
I have the same wheel, newer model. I'll be sure to pay attention next time I service the freehub.
